Zavvi has been forced to stop taking online orders for CDs, DVDs and games after Woolworths' collapse left it unable to guarantee delivery.
It said in a statement on its site: “As you may know, Woolworths plc and Entertainment UK Ltd have entered administration. Whilst Zavvi is not part of either company, Entertainment UK Ltd is Zavvi.co.uk’s main supplier of DVDs music and games.” It said it had therefore decided to suspend orders while it worked “to resolve the situation and get back to normal.” Existing customer orders where delivery could not be guaranteed will also be cancelled. Zavvi said all affected customers would receive email confirmation in the next few days and anyone who had already paid for their orders would be refunded. However, the company hopes to be trading normally in the future. A representative for the company said: “This is a temporary measure until the matter can be resolved.” However, he was unable to give a timeframe of when the company would be able to resume with its orders. Meanwhile WH Smith is also experiencing problems with its online CD and DVD sales, as a result of the Woolworths collapse. It said on its website: “We are temporarily experiencing some supply problems with DVDs, CDs and Gaming products at WHSmith.co.uk, however we expect to offer the key chart lines by the end of the week. “We are seeking to fulfil outstanding orders for DVDs, CDs or Games. If you have an outstanding order for these products we will contact you shortly.” A representative confirmed the disruption was related to the failure of distributor Entertainment UK but said the issue would be “resolved shortly.” Both companies have said customers can still buy all these products in store.
